Fingerprints are formed before birth, grow with the growth of hands and help in identification. Fingerprints come out from the interior fleshes of the skin. Even Siamese twins have varying fingerprints. Loop is the most common fingerprint. Our fingers are covered in skin pores which produce oils and sweat detected by good old fingerprint powder. An undetected fingerprint is termed as "latent". The Laser helps in obtaining fingerprints from human bodies. Identification of criminals is the most common use of fingerprints and computer database has actually helped in this goal.
Lantent Fingerprints
-are one of the most types of evidence collected at a crime scene
-DNA had stolen the media spotlight in recent years, but fingerprints have stoof the test of time as evidence that the suspect was at the crime scene
-they cannot provide the time when the suspect was at the scene
-fingerprints are formed from material on the fingers such as, grease or blood, that is pressed upon a surface
-a variety of techniques use powder and chemicals to develop lantent fingerprints
-extensice photography is used during the development and lifting process cause the print can be destroyed by any of the development ot collection techneqs

Matching Fingerprints
-a record of every criminals fingerprints seems like a great way to identify suspects
-for the last 35 years, NIST(National Institute of Standards and Technology)has helped the Federal Bureau of Investigation(FBI) improve the process of matching fingerprints found at crime scenes or collected from suspects with those on file
-another important use of friction ridges is person identification. The pattern of friction ridges on each finger is unique and immutable, enabling its use as a mark of identity

Plain Arch
is that type of pattern in which ridges enter upon one side, make a rise or a wave in the center and flow or tend to flow out upon the opposite side.
Tented Arch
is that type of pattern which possesses either an angle, an upthrust or two of the three basic characteristics of the loop.
Radial Loop
Radial Loops flow toward the thumb
Ulnar Loop
Ulnar Loops flow toward the little finger.
Double Loop Whorl
consists of two separate and distinct loop formations with two separate and distinct shoulders and two deltas.
Plain Whorl
A plain whorl fingerprint pattern that has two deltas and at least one ridge making a complete circuit, which may be spiral, oval, circular, or any variant of a circle.
Although the word latent means hidden or invisible, in modern usage for forensic science the term latent prints means any chance or accidental impression left by friction ridge skin on a surface, regardless of whether it is visible or invisible at the time of deposition. Latent prints may exhibit only a small portion of the surface of a finger and this may be smudged, distorted, overlapped by other prints from the same or from different individuals, or any or all of these in combination.
